NEMA LAUNCHES 2026 FLOOD PREPAREDNESS CAMPAIGN ACROSS HIGH-RISK STATES, INCLUDING RIVERS

Listen

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has launched its 2026 flood disaster response campaign in Rivers State, as part of efforts to prepare for flooding risks across Nigeria.

NEMA says 22 states and the Federal Capital Territory are classified as high flood-risk areas, while 14 other states fall under moderate-risk zones. The agency says the campaign is focused on early warning, preparedness, and coordinated response to reduce impact.

According to the agency, measures include evacuation planning, community sensitisation, pre-positioning of relief materials, and collaboration with local emergency structures and stakeholders.

In Rivers State, the State Emergency Management Agency says it has begun monitoring flood-prone communities and preparing evacuation plans where necessary, including possible temporary relocation to safer locations.
