LAGOS, NEMA LEAD STRONGER ACTION ON FLOODING, WASTE CONTROL AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Lagos State has intensified enforcement of environmental laws with the conviction of two residents for illegal waste dumping. The government says the move is part of ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness and reduce environmental risks across the state.

In a separate development, Lagos is also strengthening its emergency response system through the Lagos Emergency Responder Management System (LERMS), designed to improve coordination and response during emergencies such as fire outbreaks, flooding, and road incidents.

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has launched its 2026 flood preparedness campaign, warning that 22 states and the FCT are in high flood-risk zones, while 14 states are under moderate risk.

Authorities across the country continue to call for stronger public cooperation, early preparedness, and improved coordination to reduce environmental and disaster-related challenges.
