COCONUT PROCESSING NOW AMONG NIGERIA’S MOST PROFITABLE AGRO-BUSINESSES — EX-LASCODA BOSS

Listen

A former Managing Director of the Lagos State Coconut Development Authority (LASCODA), Mr Dapo Olakulehin, says coconut processing has become one of Nigeria’s most profitable agro-processing businesses.

Speaking in Lagos, Olakulehin said growing awareness of the health benefits of coconut products has continued to increase demand across the country.

He noted that the coconut value chain has expanded beyond raw produce, with processors now producing products such as coconut oil and coconut flour. According to him, coconut oil has become more expensive than many conventional oils because of its growing acceptance as a health product.

Olakulehin also highlighted the economic potential of coconut farming but identified rodents, poor plantation management and production challenges as some of the major issues affecting farmers.
