The Defence Headquarters says no Nigerian soldier was killed during the operation that led to the elimination of terrorist commander Abu Bilal Al-Minuki.
Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, said the mission was a carefully planned precision strike based on credible intelligence and coordination. He described it as a successful operation targeting a high-value terrorist figure.
He also noted that earlier reports about the suspect’s death in 2024 were based on mistaken identity, adding that the individual eliminated was the original Abu Bilal Al-Minuki, who reportedly used multiple aliases.
According to him, the United States provided intelligence and surveillance support, but no foreign troops participated in the operation.
The Defence Headquarters says the military will continue efforts to track other wanted terrorist leaders and has urged citizens to support ongoing security operations with timely information.
