The Kwara State Police Command has carried out a capacity-building programme for officers of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), as part of efforts to strengthen professional policing and improve operational efficiency in the state.
The training sessions, held at the Police Officers’ Mess, GRA, Ilorin, focused on deepening officers’ understanding of policing standards and best practices, with emphasis on Professional Ethics, Care and Custody of Suspects Under Police Detention, Police Social Media Policy, as well as Information Management and Handling of Informants.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, and made available to journalists in Ilorin, the Command explained that the programme is designed to prepare personnel of the new unit for effective, lawful, and rights-compliant operations.
According to the Command, the initiative aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, aimed at equipping officers of the VCRU with the required knowledge and capacity to respond efficiently to violent crimes while respecting human rights and due process.
The statement further stressed that the training underscores the Command’s commitment to professionalism and accountability in policing, especially in handling sensitive criminal cases and intelligence-driven operations.
The programme is expected to culminate with the official inauguration of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) alongside the nomination of members of the Civilian Oversight Board at the Police Officers’ Mess, GRA, Ilorin.
