Once calm and business-friendly, Asaba is now rattled by bold attacks on phone dealers but the government says help is coming fast.
The Delta State Government has vowed a swift, intelligence-led crackdown on rising armed robberies targeting phone and gadget dealers in Asaba.
Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, gave the assurance while meeting protesting traders at Government House, promising decisive action to restore safety.
According to him, security agencies are being mobilised for targeted operations, with a high-level strategy meeting already in the works. He also hinted at a worrying twist—possible insider involvement in some of the attacks.
“We’ll deal with this. In a few weeks, results will be visible,” Emu said, urging traders to document incidents and tighten internal security.
Dealers, however, say the situation has worsened—from occasional attacks to near-weekly raids—leaving businesses counting heavy losses and fearing more strikes.
The government insists it won’t let criminals tarnish Asaba’s reputation and is calling for cooperation as it moves to shut down the networks behind the attacks.
