DON’T IGNORE THE SIGNS: EXPERT URGES EARLY TESTING FOR HEMOPHILIA

Listen

Lagos — A leading hematologist, Titi Adeyemo, is urging Nigerians to take unusual bleeding seriously and seek early diagnosis for Hemophilia to improve survival and quality of life.

She warned that many cases go undetected, leading to severe complications—or even death—despite modern treatments that can help patients live near-normal lives.

According to her, symptoms like prolonged bleeding, heavy menstrual flow, or excessive bleeding during childbirth shouldn’t be ignored, especially for people with a family history of the condition.

Adeyemo explained that proper diagnosis requires layered blood tests to confirm the presence, type, and severity of the disorder.

While treatment has evolved from basic blood transfusion to targeted therapies—and even gene therapy globally—early detection remains the game-changer.
