Awka, May 2, 2026 — A legal practitioner in Awka, John Okoli-Akirika, has advised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to consider adopting a new, legally “clean” political platform if it wants to meet INEC’s tight schedule for the 2027 elections.
Speaking to NAN, he warned that despite a recent Supreme Court ruling touching on the party’s leadership tussle, the crisis is far from over.
According to him, the judgment does not fully resolve the internal dispute, as several other cases involving the party are still pending in different courts.
Okoli-Akirika said ADC risks missing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline for primaries, set for May 30, if the legal battle drags on.
He suggested that the party’s leadership consider adopting another stable platform within or outside its coalition to avoid disruption ahead of the elections.
The lawyer also noted that the Supreme Court decision may only return the matter to the Federal High Court, meaning further delays are likely.
He cautioned that continued litigation could weaken the party’s preparedness for 2027.
