The Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State has arrested 16 suspected cultists at The Polytechnic Ibadan, foiling what authorities say could have escalated into violence.
Police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka said the suspects—linked to the Aiye confraternity—were picked up during a planned meeting on campus.
The operation, led by Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga, followed intelligence and was carried out with approval from school authorities.
Recovered items include two locally made guns, two pistols, 16 live cartridges, axes, and charms.
Police say some of the suspects were already on a watchlist for alleged involvement in past killings and cult-related crimes.
Investigations are ongoing, with efforts to track down other fleeing members.
The command insists it’s doubling down on efforts to stamp out cultism and violent crime in the state.
