New York, April 30, 2026 — The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA, is no longer a valid foundation for any new agreement with Tehran.
IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said Iran’s nuclear programme has evolved too much since the deal was signed, stressing that “we need something different” going forward.
He also noted that inspectors last verified and sealed about 440kg of highly enriched uranium in 2025 but said the agency cannot confirm current conditions without renewed access.
Meanwhile, the CTBTO warned that rising global tensions and talk of nuclear testing are weakening international security, urging stronger cooperation to uphold the global test-ban system.
