The Nigeria Police Force in Katsina has foiled an armed attack on Unguwar Bido and Unguwar Kanawa villages in Dandume Local Government Area, arresting one suspected bandit in the process.
Police spokesperson DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu said the incident happened late Tuesday night after a distress call alerted officers to the invasion by heavily armed attackers.
He said a rapid response team led by the Divisional Police Officer engaged the assailants in a gun battle, forcing them to flee with suspected injuries and abandon their mission.
Sadly, two residents were shot during the attack and are currently receiving treatment in hospital.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ali Fage, praised the swift response of officers and ordered a full investigation, as well as a manhunt for fleeing suspects.
Residents have been urged to stay alert and share useful information with security agencies as efforts continue to track down the attackers.
