FRSC TO DRIVING SCHOOLS: STOP PUTTING PROFIT ABOVE LIVES

Listen

The Federal Road Safety Corps has warned driving school operators across the country to stop prioritising profit over proper training, saying it is worsening road accidents.

Speaking at a national workshop in Abuja, Deputy Corps Marshal (Training), DCM Abiodun Akinlade, said poor driver education, weak safety culture, and inadequate training remain major causes of crashes in Nigeria.

The workshop, under the Driving School Standardisation Programme, is aimed at improving training standards across eight centres nationwide.

Akinlade stressed that driving schools are key to road safety, urging instructors to follow approved guidelines and resist cutting corners for financial gain.

“Human life is sacred. Driving schools must focus on safety, not shortcuts,” he said.

He added that the initiative is designed to align Nigeria’s driver education with global best practices and reduce road fatalities.

Stakeholders, including the National Open University of Nigeria, backed the move, describing road safety as a major public health issue with wide-reaching consequences.

The FRSC says better-trained drivers mean fewer crashes—and ultimately, safer roads for everyone.
