Gov. Monday Okpebholo has named Innocent Bello as Managing Director of EdoGIS—and scrapped the Ministry of Lands in a sweeping reform.
The move shifts all land matters to a single digital platform under EdoGIS, aimed at faster service, better transparency, and less room for fraud. The appointment is now before the State Assembly for screening, led by Speaker Blessing Agbebaku.
As part of the shake-up, Lands Commissioner Vincent Uwadiae has been moved to Physical Planning.
The government says the overhaul is also about meeting World Bank requirements under the RAAMP programme—just in time for a key funding deadline.
Bello, a GIS expert from National Space Research and Development Agency, is expected to lead Edo’s push to digitise land records, curb racketeering, and clean up the system.
