A PDP chieftain, Adetokunbo Pearse, says the opposition’s plan to field a single candidate in 2027 sounds good but will only work if egos are parked.
Speaking after talks involving the Peoples Democratic Party and African Democratic Congress, Pearse stressed that unity, discipline and compromise are non-negotiable.
He warned that past alliances—like the 2019 coalition—collapsed under the weight of rivalry and “too many contenders, not enough teamwork.” This time, he says, the strategy is different: a joint ticket where the strongest party produces the candidate, and the other takes the deputy slot.
Pearse also downplayed the power of governors, pointing to 2023 results where voter sentiment—not political structures—decided outcomes.
Still, he admits it won’t be easy. Ambition remains the biggest threat.
His wildcard combo? Seyi Makinde paired with Rabiu Kwankwaso a ticket he believes could shake up the race against Bola Tinubu.
