Security operatives uncover a suspected child trafficking case on the highway.
Police in Ondo State have intercepted a suspected child trafficking syndicate and rescued a 13-year-old girl along the Owena axis.
According to police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the suspects were flagged down by Nigerian Army personnel while travelling in a commercial bus from Lagos to Abuja. But something didn’t add up—they couldn’t explain who the girl was or where she was headed.
That raised red flags. The suspects were arrested on the spot, while the girl was taken into protective care.
The case has now been handed over to the Gender-Based Offences Unit for deeper investigation, with police promising to prosecute anyone found guilty.
Authorities say the operation highlights growing inter-agency collaboration in tackling trafficking and other crimes.
They’re also urging parents, transporters, and the public to stay alert and report suspicious movements involving minors.
