NICASA ISSUES SAFETY ALERT AS ANTI-FOREIGN PROTESTS LOOM IN SOUTH AFRICA

Listen

The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa has warned Nigerians in South Africa to be extra cautious ahead of planned anti-foreign protests scheduled for April 27–29.

NICASA President-General Frank Onyekwelu says past experiences show these protests can quickly escalate, making vigilance critical—especially in Gauteng Province.

Avoid protest zones, limit movement, and if possible, stay indoors. Business owners are also encouraged to temporarily shut down operations to protect lives and property.

Nigerians are urged to keep in touch with family and community leaders, follow verified updates, and steer clear of confrontations.

NICASA says it’s monitoring the situation closely and will keep the community informed—but for now, the message is simple: stay alert, stay safe.
