The reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation in Lagos saw mixed compliance, as residents obeyed movement restrictions but showed low turnout for actual cleanup.
Across areas like Iyana-Ipaja and Alimosho, businesses closed and roads emptied—including the usually busy Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway—but many residents simply stayed indoors instead of cleaning.
While a few cleared gutters and surroundings, others waited out the exercise, with some youths even turning empty roads into football pitches.
Officials enforced compliance, but residents say awareness remains low, with some admitting they didn’t even know about the exercise.
Others argue that sanitation should go beyond enforcement, calling for more public sensitisation to drive real participation.
