Governor Ademola Adeleke says Osun has planted 400,000 cocoa seedlings since 2023, distributing them to farmers at subsidised rates as part of a broader plan to reclaim its spot among Nigeria’s top cocoa producers.
But it’s not just cocoa—80,000 cashew and 60,000 oil palm seedlings have also gone into the ground, signaling a strong diversification drive across key cash crops.
Adeleke says the strategy goes beyond planting, with efforts underway to expand agro-processing and strengthen the entire value chain to meet both local and global demand.
On mechanisation, the state has deployed 31 tractors (with a target of 117), already cultivating over 4,500 acres a move he says is boosting productivity despite funding challenges.
