Residents of Bogodo and Janruwa in Chikun LGA, Kaduna, say they’ve been living without electricity for 16 months, blaming faulty transformers and delayed response from authorities.
With a population of about 4,000, locals say the prolonged blackout has crippled small businesses, from barbing salons to drink shops, and slashed daily incomes.
“We’ve tried fixing the transformer multiple times, even wrote to Kaduna Electric—but nothing has worked,” one resident said.
Community leaders are now appealing to the government and stakeholders for urgent intervention, especially after Kaduna Electric reportedly promised new transformers months ago a promise residents say is yet to be fulfilled.
Officials say efforts are ongoing, but on the ground, frustration is growing.
