Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have killed an ISWAP commander and 24 other fighters while repelling an attack on Kukareta community in Borno State.
The Theatre Commander, Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, said the early-morning assault was decisively neutralised after a fierce exchange that lasted till about 3 a.m.
He confirmed that the ISWAP commander, Abu Umar Bundi Munzir, was among those killed, while one fighter was captured alive as others fled in disarray.
Troops also recovered a large cache of weapons, including AK-47 rifles, machine guns, RPG tubes, grenades, and ammunition during follow-up operations.
Two soldiers were injured but have since been stabilised.
The military says further operations are ongoing to track fleeing insurgents and recover abandoned equipment, as pressure on terrorist groups in the North-East continues.
