Midnight battle in Borno—soldiers strike back hard, rescue women and children, and recover deadly weapons.

Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed 24 terrorists and rescued nine abducted women and children during operations in Borno State.

According to an operational report, soldiers of the 26 Brigade carried out a search-and-rescue mission around the Mandara Mountains, successfully freeing victims held by insurgents suspected to be Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters.

The terrorists reportedly retaliated with attacks on Gwoza, but no casualties were recorded on the civilian or military side.

A major confrontation also erupted in Kukareta community, where troops engaged the attackers in a fierce overnight gun battle lasting till about 3 a.m., killing about 24 insurgents.

Recovered weapons include AK-47 rifles, machine guns, RPG tubes, grenades, and ammunition.

While troops recorded some equipment damage during the firefight, follow-up operations are ongoing to track fleeing fighters and secure the area.
