The Nigeria Police Force in Rivers State has dissolved its tactical teams, rolling out a new structure aimed at boosting efficiency and professionalism.
Announcing the move in Port Harcourt, police spokesperson Blessing Agabe said the decision follows a directive from Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu.
The disbanded units have now been merged into a newly created Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU)—tasked with responding swiftly to serious crimes while strictly respecting human rights.
According to Agabe, the overhaul is designed to improve coordination and rebuild public trust in policing.
Rivers Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju didn’t mince words—warning officers against extortion, abuse of office, and misconduct.
“Any breach of the Police Code of Conduct will be punished,” he said.
Adepoju also reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to report suspicious activities and any misconduct by officers.
