MIDNIGHT ABDUCTION IN KWARA: POLICE RESCUE MONARCH’S BROTHER, NAB 42 SUSPECTED ILLEGAL MINERS

Listen

The Kwara State Police Command has rescued the brother of a traditional ruler following a late-night abduction in Ifelodun LGA, while arresting 42 suspected illegal miners linked to the incident.

Armed men reportedly stormed the Olayinka community around 1am, abducting the monarch, Salman Ayanda, his brother, and another individual.

Confirming the operation, Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo said the monarch’s brother was later found tied to a tree in a bush and successfully rescued after the attackers fled.

Police say the attack may be connected to a royalty payment the monarch received earlier from illegal miners operating in the area.

According to Ojo, the gunmen—about 10 in number—invaded the palace, demanded the money, and took the victims despite collecting it.

Following swift intelligence, police launched a coordinated operation using drones and tactical support, leading to the arrest of 42 suspected illegal miners in the community.

However, authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine if the kidnappers are among those arrested.

The suspects are currently in custody in Ilorin, while security forces continue efforts to rescue the abducted monarch.

Tension remains high in the community as the search intensifies.
