A former Kwara commissioner is raising concern over what he calls growing attempts to turn a painful tragedy into political ammunition.
Prof. Mahmud Babatunde Ajeigbe has cautioned against politicising the Offa robbery incident, warning that such narratives could distort facts and undermine justice.
Speaking as an indigene of Offa, Ajeigbe described claims linking political figures to the robbery as unfounded, insisting it was unlikely that leaders at that level would be involved in such acts.
He specifically defended former Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, noting that his position and response at the time reflected commitment to public service and concern for the community.
Ajeigbe urged political actors to avoid smear campaigns and instead focus on governance and issues affecting citizens.
He also stressed the importance of accountability and warned that actions taken today would be judged by history.
The former commissioner called for restraint and a commitment to truth and justice in handling the narrative around the incident.
