A routine seatbelt check turned violent — now FRSC is sending a clear message: assault an officer, face the law.
Abuja, April 16, 2026 — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a stern warning to motorists and the public against assaulting its personnel, following a violent attack on officers in Edo State.
Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, said the suspect behind the incident has been arrested after fleeing and later mobilising tricycle operators to attack FRSC officials during enforcement.
An officer was reportedly pushed into a gutter and beaten, while others were also assaulted before the suspect escaped.
He was later tracked and apprehended with support from security agencies, including the police and DSS, and has since confessed.
Mohammed stressed that the corps has zero tolerance for such acts, warning that offenders will face full legal consequences.
“While the suspect has shown remorse, the law will take its course,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to cooperate with FRSC officials and use proper complaint channels instead of resorting to violence.
The injured officer is currently stable and receiving treatment, as the corps vows to ensure justice is served.
