With flood warnings flashing, Anambra is rolling out a statewide clean-up—and everyone is expected to join in.
The Anambra Government has announced a sweeping environmental exercise, “Operation Clear Your Waterways 3.0,” aimed at clearing blocked drains and preventing flooding before the rains set in.
Environment Ministry Permanent Secretary Tochukwu Obodogha said the clean-up begins April 27 and will focus on removing silt, debris and waste clogging waterways across the state.
From homes and markets to churches, schools and motor parks, residents and organisations have been directed to participate fully—warning that defaulters risk sanctions.
Authorities also stressed that cleared waste must be properly disposed of at designated sites, not dumped along roadsides where it could cause secondary pollution.
The urgency follows fresh alerts by the Federal Ministry of Environment, which listed communities like Atani, Iyowa Odekpe and Onitsha among high-risk flood zones.
Officials warn that blocked drainage systems could trigger flooding, erosion and property damage if left unattended.
t’s a race against the rains—and Anambra is calling on everyone to play their part.
