In modern warfare, it’s not just firepower — it’s fitness, skill, and readiness that decide who wins.
The Nigerian Army has sent a clear message to its troops: the battlefield rewards only the prepared.
Speaking at the Guards Brigade competition in Abuja, Adewale Adekeye stressed that continuous, realistic training is the backbone of military success — especially in today’s complex security landscape.
“The battlefield only favours those who are prepared,” he said, urging soldiers to stay sharp, disciplined, and ready for action at all times.
The competition, featuring drills like weapons handling, map reading, obstacle courses, and endurance races, tested the strength and skill of rank-and-file soldiers — the true engine room of combat operations.
And there was a clear winner: the 176 Guards Battalion, which topped the chart with an impressive 390 points.
Also speaking, Adebisi Onasanya highlighted that training is not a one-off event but a continuous process designed to build resilience, teamwork, and combat efficiency.
With evolving threats and rising security challenges, the Army says there’s no room for complacency.
In the field, preparation isn’t optional it’s survival.
