Benghazi hosts Africa’s best as players battle for Macao 2026 spots
For the first time ever, Libya will host the ITTF Africa Cup, with Benghazi welcoming Africa’s top table tennis stars from Feb. 7–9 in a high-stakes showdown.
Held at the Al-Nasr Sports Club, the historic tournament will see elite men and women competing not just for continental honours, but for automatic qualification to the 2026 ITTF World Cup in Macao, China — with semifinalists in both singles categories sealing their tickets.
ITTF Africa President Wahid Oshodi praised Libya’s commitment, saying the event reflects the sport’s growth, unity and diversity across the continent.
ITTF President Petra Sörling added that the Africa Cup now signals Africa’s rising influence on the global table tennis stage, especially as the sport approaches its 100-year anniversary in 2026.
Beyond trophies, the Benghazi showdown doubles as key preparation for major events, including the 2026 World Team Championships in London, and highlights Africa’s growing role in world sport.
