Listen

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of three senior police officers and the demotion of 16 others over misconduct and conduct deemed unbecoming of officers of the law.

The commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Kalu, announced the decisions in a statement on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, in Abuja, saying sanctions had also been approved for 42 officers, while three others were exonerated.

Kalu said 16 officers were reduced in rank, 21 received severe reprimands and two were issued ordinary reprimands. He added that some previously suspended officers had also been reinstated into the force.

The decisions were reached at the PSC plenary meeting presided over by its Chairman, Hashimu Argungu. Argungu said the actions reaffirmed the commission’s zero tolerance for corruption, human rights abuses, interference in land and civil matters, and other forms of misconduct within the police.

The PSC chairman assured the public of the commission’s commitment to the speedy handling of disciplinary cases. He also commended the Standing Committee on Discipline and Legal Matters for its work in reviewing the cases and appeals.
