The Women’s Rights and Health Project (WRAHP), a non-governmental organisation, has launched a period comic initiative to improve menstrual health education and reduce stigma among adolescents in secondary schools across Lagos State.
WRAHP Executive Director, Ms Bose Ironsi, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday, November 5, 2026, saying the initiative was introduced under the organisation’s Young Leadership Programme. Supported by the Aspire Coronation Trust (ACT) Foundation, the 12-month project, running from May 2026 to April 2027, aims to reach 3,000 girls and boys in Oshodi-Isolo, Eti-Osa, Badagry and Ikorodu Local Government Areas.
Ironsi said the initiative had already engaged 577 students—240 boys and 337 girls—in three secondary schools in Badagry in October. The interactive sessions covered puberty education, physical and emotional changes during adolescence, proper sanitary pad use and hygienic disposal practices. Female students also received sanitary kits, while 13 teachers were trained as Menstrual Health Management Ambassadors to sustain the programme through peer education and follow-up sessions.
She said involving boys was central to the initiative, as the programme seeks to challenge harmful stereotypes, reduce menstrual stigma and promote gender sensitivity in schools. Ironsi stressed that menstrual health was a shared responsibility, adding that educating boys and girls together would help create more inclusive and supportive learning environments.
