BATMEDICS, a political support group for President Bola Tinubu, has provided free eye screening and other eye care services to at least 500 commercial drivers and motorists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to mark the 2026 World Sight Day.

The exercise was organised in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) under the theme “Love Your Eyes.” BATMEDICS National Director of Research, Media and Strategic Communication, Petra Onyegbule, disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, October 9.

According to the group’s Director-General, Ojeje Onimisi, the initiative was designed to improve access to essential healthcare for professional drivers and promote road safety. The services included eye examinations, medication prescriptions and funding for corrective eye surgeries for beneficiaries diagnosed with severe visual impairments.

Onimisi stressed that regular eye examinations were essential for drivers, whose work requires clear vision to identify road signs, pedestrians and potential hazards. He urged motorists to seek medical attention for symptoms such as blurred vision, night blindness and persistent eye strain.

Representing the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, Assistant Corps Marshal Ibrahim Bazama commended the partnership, describing early detection of visual problems as an important measure for preventing road crashes. Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation for the free services, acknowledging the financial relief provided by access to eye care that might otherwise be difficult to afford.
