NIGERIA, BURKINA FASO DEEPEN SECURITY COOPERATION AGAINST TERRORISM, ORGANISED CRIME

Listen

Nigeria and Burkina Faso have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening security cooperation to combat terrorism, violent extremism and transnational organised crime across West Africa.

The commitment followed a meeting in Ouagadougou between Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Rimtalba Ouédraogo, and Nigeria’s Ambassador to the country, Syndoph Endoni. According to a statement by the Embassy of Nigeria in Ouagadougou, both sides agreed that shared security challenges required closer coordination, intelligence sharing and stronger institutional collaboration.

Ouédraogo acknowledged the longstanding people-to-people ties between the two countries and expressed Burkina Faso’s readiness to work closely with Nigeria to strengthen bilateral relations and advance shared interests. The discussions also emphasised the need for coordinated responses to terrorism and organised criminal networks, as well as closer cooperation in security and defence.

Endoni said security and development should not be treated as separate objectives, stressing that stronger economic and agricultural partnerships could improve livelihoods, strengthen food security and complement counter-terrorism efforts.

Both sides expressed interest in more regular consultations on security, defence, agriculture, economic relations and people-to-people exchanges as part of efforts to promote a more secure and prosperous West Africa.
