U.N. SEC.GEN. GUTERRES CALLS FOR PERMANENT CEASEFIRE THREE YEARS AFTER OCT. 7 ATTACKS

Listen

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called for a peaceful future for Israelis and Palestinians ahead of the third anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks.

Guterres paid tribute to the victims of the attacks and said the suffering of their families must not be forgotten. He also highlighted the continuing suffering of Palestinians in Gaza and called for an end to the violence affecting civilians.

He said the ceasefire in place since October 2025 had brought some relief but had yet to deliver lasting security, adequate humanitarian assistance or a credible path to recovery and peace.

The UN chief urged all parties to fully implement their commitments, move to the next phase of the ceasefire and work towards a permanent ceasefire, humanitarian assistance at scale and lasting peace in the region.
