NCS STRENGTHENS BORDER MANAGEMENT AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS

Listen

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it is strengthening the country’s border management framework ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada said the service is working with local and international partners to reintroduce coordinated border management and develop effective one-stop border posts. He said the process has started at Mfum on the Nigeria-Cameroon border and Seme-Krake on the Nigeria-Benin border.

The service is also investing in geospatial intelligence and non-intrusive inspection technology to improve border monitoring and cargo checks. According to the NCS, recent recruitment and engagement with border communities are also intended to strengthen enforcement and help curb the movement of prohibited items.

The NCS says the approach will combine stronger surveillance, technology, stakeholder engagement and intelligence-led enforcement as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
