School pupil protests over conditions and learning environments are entering their second week in France, with student representatives calling for fresh demonstrations across the country.
Rallies are planned in Paris and several major cities, while education unions have backed the protests and some are calling for strike action.
The demonstrations have at times involved clashes with police. Authorities are also investigating an incident in Lens involving a 15-year-old pupil who lost a hand after a projectile exploded. Police are investigating the riot control unit involved following allegations concerning how the projectile was used.
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has called for concrete improvements in schools and urged authorities to listen to pupils’ concerns. Meanwhile, protests were reported at 589 schools on Monday.
