Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) Basketball Club have emerged champions of the 2026 Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball National Final 8 after edging First Bank 66-64 in a thrilling overtime final on Saturday, October 3.
The Yaba-based side dominated the early stages, winning the first three quarters 11-6, 13-12 and 19-17 to take a 43-35 lead into the final quarter. First Bank, however, mounted a strong comeback in the fourth quarter to level the scores at 56-56 and force the decisive five-minute overtime.
MFM maintained its composure under pressure to outscore First Bank in overtime and secure the championship. MFM player Abigail Isaac praised her teammates for refusing to give up, while First Bank’s Olanrewaju Ayodeji said her team was proud of its performance despite falling short.
MFM received 7.5 million naira as champions, while First Bank earned 5 million naira as runners-up. Both finalists also secured automatic qualification to represent Nigeria at the continental championships later in the year, while Nigeria Customs defeated Aso Sky Queens 51-38 to finish third and claim 3 million naira.
