Listen

Officials of FC Barcelona have commended the Bayelsa Government for its efforts to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing the Bayelsa Starlets Academy.

The officials gave the commendation on Friday, October 2nd, during a three-day visit to Bayelsa to assess the academy’s temporary facility at Onopa, Yenagoa. FC Barcelona Technical Director for Europe and Africa, Bernat Gorriz, expressed satisfaction with the accommodation and other facilities, saying they reflected the government’s commitment to the partnership.

Gorriz said the spacious environment would support players’ football development, education and welfare, while also helping them build stronger bonds as teammates. He also praised the quality of football displayed by the Starlets in two matches he watched, saying the team had improved significantly since his previous visit.

Director-General of the Prosperity Cup, Ono Akpe, said the academy team was selected from the eighth edition of the competition through a process led by former international Edema Fuludu. He said the team had since won the NLO Youth League in Yenagoa and remained in camp preparing for the N-Youth League, describing the progress as evidence of the project’s potential.
