POLICE BUST CHILD-TRAFFICKING SYNDICATE, RECOVER THREE CHILDREN IN EBONYI

The Ebonyi State Police Command has busted an alleged child-trafficking syndicate, arrested several suspects and recovered three children allegedly handed over to prospective adopters.

Police spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, speaking on Thursday, October 1st, said the breakthrough followed investigations into reported cases of child abduction and trafficking in the state. He said the investigation, which began in May 2026, led to the arrest of several suspects allegedly involved in schemes targeting mothers and separating them from their children.

According to the command, further investigations led to the recovery of a two-year-old child and a three-year-old child in Imo State, while another baby boy allegedly abducted in May was recovered in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Police said preliminary findings indicated that some of the children were allegedly transferred for as much as 2.5 million naira.

The command said several other suspects, including alleged accomplices linked to social welfare activities, had been arrested as investigations continued. Police said the suspects allegedly facilitated the transfer of children to people seeking to adopt or foster them, while efforts were ongoing to recover an 11-year-old girl allegedly abducted in Ebonyi and handed over to another person.
