The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) says the procurement process for six new satellites approved by the Federal Government has reached 95 per cent completion.
NASRDA Director-General, Prof. Matthew Adepoju, said the programme includes three optical Earth observation satellites, one Synthetic Aperture Radar satellite and two communication satellites identified as 2A and 2B.
The agency also plans to establish a new Assembly, Integration and Testing Laboratory to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity for satellite development and manufacturing. Adepoju said the facility is expected to be completed within 18 months after the contract is signed.
The project is estimated to cost $2 billion and will involve various international partners. NASRDA says the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s space infrastructure and expand opportunities in the space sector.
