A man, Abdulrazaq Abdulra’uf, on Wednesday September 30, agreed to the dissolution of his marriage to Khadija Isah after she sought a divorce before a Shari’a Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State.
Isah, who has two children, boys aged 15 and 10, had asked the court to dissolve the marriage through Khul’i, a form of divorce in which a woman offers to return the dowry received from her husband in exchange for her freedom.
She told the court that she was willing to return the 10,000 naira paid as her dowry during the marriage.
However, Abdulra’uf’s counsel, Malam Yazid Abdulsalam, declined to collect the dowry on his client’s behalf, effectively leaving the payment unaccepted.
The presiding judge, Malam Mu’awiyah Shehu, subsequently ruled that the marriage had been dissolved.
