The Rivers State House of Assembly has endorsed the proposed constitutional amendment seeking to create a framework for the establishment of State Police Services.
All 25 members of the Assembly voted in favour of the bill during Monday’s plenary. Speaker Martins Amaewhule said the decision followed consultations by lawmakers with their constituents.
The proposal is part of the ongoing constitutional amendment process. The National Assembly has transmitted the bill to the 36 state Houses of Assembly for consideration, with at least 24 assemblies required to approve a constitutional amendment before it can proceed.
