Yeni Kuti, Co-manager of the New Afrika Shrine, says Felabration continues to promote Nigerian culture while celebrating the life and legacy of late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
Kuti stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, September 26, in Lagos, ahead of the 2026 edition of the annual festival scheduled for Oct. 12 to Oct. 18.
She said the week-long event would feature an art competition at the Kalakuta Museum on Oct. 1, a dance competition at the New Afrika Shrine on Oct. 3, school debates on Oct. 7 and the ‘Dress Fela’ fashion show on Oct. 10.
Kuti said Felabration had continued to attract tourists, particularly people of African descent from the diaspora, providing an opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage to an international audience. She said the presence of visitors from around the world at the Shrine was a positive development for cultural promotion.
Felabration was conceived by Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti in 1998 and has grown into an annual celebration featuring music, debates, dance, art and fashion in honour of Fela’s life and legacy.
