The Small-Scale Women Farmers Organisation in Nigeria (SWOFON) has raised concerns over what it described as a decline in Anambra State’s budgetary allocation for agriculture.
Speaking in Awka, SWOFON Coordinator in Anambra East LGA, Mrs Rosemary Onwuegbuka, said the state’s agricultural allocation fell from 2.03 per cent in 2021 to 0.59 per cent in 2025. The group also said ₦10.97 billion was approved for agricultural capital projects between 2021 and 2025, while actual expenditure stood at ₦3.21 billion, representing 29.3 per cent implementation.
SWOFON said inadequate funding and implementation have constrained access to improved seeds, mechanisation, irrigation, extension services, finance, processing facilities and markets. The group is calling for clearer budget lines and greater transparency in tracking agricultural funds and projects.
The organisation also urged the state government and relevant stakeholders to strengthen women farmers’ participation throughout the budget process and ensure agricultural interventions reach intended beneficiaries.
