The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kaduna State Chapter, has appealed for dialogue in a dispute involving journalist Zainab Yabagi of JKD Radio/Television.
The call follows reports of activities by the Kaduna State Police Command concerning a broadcast involving the Special Adviser to the President, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, as well as a reported effort by the police to invite Yabagi in connection with the matter.
NAWOJ urged the police and management of JKD Radio/Television to explore established internal mechanisms and dialogue while ensuring that the rights and interests of all parties are protected. The association also appealed to Masari, as a public official and leader, to support an amicable resolution.
The association said journalists are not above the law and must uphold professional ethics, but noted that misunderstandings arising from professional duties can be addressed through clarification, correction and appropriate channels. It urged all parties to exercise maturity and restraint in the interest of peace and the journalism profession.
