The Nigerian Army Women Command (NAWC) has recorded major operational deployments, including the first deployment of female soldiers as a complete contingent for a peace support mission in the Republic of Benin. Outgoing NAWC Commander, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Adamu, disclosed this on Monday, September 21, during the operationalisation of refurbished vehicles and the renovated Soldiers’ Club in Giri, Abuja.
Adamu said the deployment was carried out under Operation ALAFIA, while other NAWC personnel were deployed to Plateau State under Operation ENDURING PEACE to support efforts to restore stability. The Command also participated in election security duties during the recent Osun State governorship election.
The commander attributed the achievements to the support and enabling environment provided by Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, and said the Command remained committed to maintaining operational readiness and supporting the Army in addressing security challenges. Adamu is expected to become the pioneer commander of the newly established 8 Brigade in Ado-Ekiti.
At the event, Shaibu, represented by Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, said the refurbished vehicles would improve the Command’s ability to mobilise personnel, equipment and logistics for operations. He also said the renovated Nightingale Club would promote relaxation, social interaction and morale among personnel and their families, while urging troops to maintain the vehicles and other government assets responsibly.
