A 52-year-old man, identified as Alaba Ayeni, has been found dead inside a domestic well near Lamp Bearers Islamic School, off Asa-Dam Road, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, after children in the area reportedly discovered the man inside the well and alerted community elders. The Kwara State Fire Service responded to the distress call at about 8:42 a.m. and recovered the body.
The Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said the body was subsequently handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of Budo-Nuhu Police Station, DPO Bolaji, for further necessary action.
The Chief Fire Officer, CFS Alabi Muhammed, expressed concern over the incident and urged residents to properly cover and secure domestic wells and other open water sources. He also advised parents, guardians and community leaders to ensure children do not move around unattended near wells, drainage channels and other hazardous areas.
The Kwara State Fire Service commiserated with the deceased’s family and community, while reaffirming its commitment to responding promptly to emergencies and protecting lives and property across the state.
