Enzo Fernandez opened the scoring for City with a ninth-minute free-kick, but Brian Brobbey equalised three minutes later. Rayan Cherki restored City’s lead in the 29th minute before Brobbey struck again before half-time. Anthony Semenyo then scored twice in the second half, while Brobbey completed his hat-trick before Erling Haaland sealed the victory late on.
City manager Enzo Maresca described the match as difficult but praised his side for finding a way to secure the three points. The result keeps City at the summit as the early-season title race continues to develop.
At Craven Cottage, Manchester United were denied a third consecutive league defeat after Cunha equalised in the 89th minute following Lisandro Martinez’s own goal. The draw leaves United with five points from five matches, while Cunha admitted the team must improve despite feeling they were unlucky.
At the Vitality Stadium, Liverpool edged Bournemouth 1-0 in a closely contested encounter, with Alexander Isak scoring the decisive goal in the 57th minute.
