Nigeria’s men’s volleyball team have secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 CAVB Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship after edging Algeria 3-2 in a thrilling five-set encounter in Tunis, Tunisia, on Thursday September 17.
Algeria took the opening set 25-23, but Nigeria responded strongly to win the second 25-19. The North Africans regained the lead by taking the third set 25-21 before Nigeria fought back again, winning the fourth set 25-20.
The Nigerian team completed the comeback in the deciding fifth set, winning 15-12 to seal their second victory of the championship. Coach Ryan Masajedi praised his players for recovering from the early setback and maintaining their composure to secure the win.
The championship is taking place in Tunis from Sept. 13 to Sept. 25, with Nigeria now through to the quarter-finals as they continue their campaign for continental honours.
