The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has appealed to political parties, candidates and voters to ensure peaceful conduct before, during and after the 2027 general election.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Dr Mutiu Agboke, made the call during a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure attended by political parties, security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, transport unions and other stakeholders.
Agboke reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to neutrality and transparency, warning against vote-buying, intimidation, partisan conduct and violence. He said credible elections were a collective responsibility and that only votes lawfully cast and counted would determine the winners.
Traditional and religious leaders pledged to promote non-violence, while security agencies and transport unions assured the commission of their support for the movement of personnel and election materials as preparations for 2027 continue.
