The Kogi Government has reaffirmed its regulatory authority over the pool betting, lottery and gaming sector, while seeking closer cooperation with operators.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Sualihat Musa-Amana, made this known during a stakeholders’ meeting with agents and representatives of the Pool Betters Association in Lokoja. She explained that while the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) monitors and reconciles payments, the ministry remains responsible for licensing, negotiating rates and sealing business premises.
Musa-Amana assured operators that the ministry had no plans to impose additional levies or double charges, but urged them to properly display their licences and provide accurate contact details for promoters. The ministry also plans to designate a desk officer to liaise directly with the association on payment and compliance matters.
The Pool Betters Association pledged to provide a comprehensive list of active promoters, companies and contact details to help update government records. Both sides expressed optimism that continued engagement would strengthen cooperation in the sector.
